I was recently thinking about rainboots, mostly because I got a new pair and I get really excited whenever I get to wear them and slosh around knowing my feet will stay dry. It's so good. Then I thought, well it's too bad I won't need these in South Africa, because summer rains are always the best, and it would be so fun to splash around in the warm rain. THEN I started thinking about the peculiarity of rain boots in the first place, I mean when you put them into the context of the whole world like that -- because in Africa (and of course I really only know about Kenya and Malawi), there's really no need for rain boots, because there's not enough rain for that. I wonder if I wore rain boots in Kenya or Malawi, would the people have understood what they were? I think it's crazy that we live in such a society of abundance and prosperity that we have to invent extra goods to take care of our extra "needs" that come from having so much... So now when I wear my rain boots, I thank God twice: once for having the luxury of dry, warm feet so I can enjoy the rain, and then once for the simple fact that I have a reason to need them, that rain that brings sustenance and prosperity in such a real way. Wow.

There's a carnival/party of some sort in our dorm this weekend, and I'm pretty sure that the poster for it is my new favorite poster ever - it advertises some of the activities going on, and then the food. The food they advertise? Popcorn, slushies, Chinese, Indian, Brazilian, and cotton candy. ?? What kind of a party is this?! Awesome.
oh p.s. I've changed the background and such to be less wintery. :)
